Clarification

Please allow me to respond to Mr. John Davis’ letter to the editor dated Aug. 12, 2008, that came out in the Marianas Variety titled “Somewhat amusing”.

It was never my intention to suggest or insinuate that anyone who is indigenous or respects the culture of this community will automatically win any office in any election. Rather my letter was intended to give appreciation to Ms. Lynn Knight for her admiration of our indigenous culture and values. Nothing more and nothing less.

I would also like to set the record straight that I believe anyone—regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or culture—should be able to run for any public office and represent our community for I do understand that we live in a multicultural America. I also believe that the most qualified individual and the one who possesses the traits of honesty, courage and integrity should be the one we send to Washington, D.C. I have a very clear idea of what can be accomplish in office but more than that I have a very clear vision of what should be accomplished for the entire CNMI.
