Hiro welcomes new SSC coach
Tsunami Saipan Swimming Center has extended a hand of friendship and cooperation to new Saipan Swim Club coach Michael Blasberg.
According to Tsunami Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura, he and Blasberg have already met a couple of times and seem to share the same dream to further develop the sport in the Commonwealth.
“Mike is very friendly guy and he knows swimming very well. His mind is so flexible to think about sharing the pool, holding mutual meets with us, and the swimming community of the CNMI,” Kimura said in an email to the Saipan Tribune.
Kimura added that he is already looking forward to Tsunami Saipan-SSC cooperation in the future, which would only stand to benefit local swimmers as well as improve the standard of the sport in the islands.
“I’m sure we can work together if he is the head coach of SSC. We expect good relationship because we respect each other. This was impossible last season.”
Tsunami Saipan president Stan Good joined Kimura in welcoming the new SSC coach.
“On behalf of the Tsunami Saipan team we welcome SSC’s new head coach, Michael Blasberg. Working together we can promote swimming and increase the community interest in swimming.”
Good added that the Northern Marianas Swimming Federation—the umbrella federation for swimming in the Commonwealth—is already planning a mutual meet that would have Tsunami Saipan and SSC swimmers compete this season.
“Aiming at achievement, both coaches are talking about it (mutual meet) right now,” said Good.
In related news, Tsunami Saipan has set up a new class specifically designed for those who want to get in shape and for beginners who are over nine years old.
“The class name is ‘Youth and Fitness.’ There are still some more spaces to sign up, though five swimmers are there already,” said Kimura.
