CUC lowers September power rates
Island residents have one thing to look forward to when it comes to power: lower rates.
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is lowering the fluctuating electric power rates by 5 cents for the month of September.
Under the new rates, customers will pay 36.2 cents for fluctuating electric fuel rates and 1.6 cents for electric non-fuel rates, for a total of 37.8 cents per kWh for the first 500 kWh.
Last month, customers were paying an all time high for fuel at 42.9 cents per kWh for the first 500 kWh.
For customers using 501 to 1,000 kWh, they will be assessed 6.6 cents for electric non-fuel rates and 36.2 cents for fluctuating fuel rates, for a total of 42.8 cents per kWh.
Those using between 1,001 to 2,000 kWh, will be charged 8.6 cents for electric non-fuel rates and 36.2 cents for fluctuating electric fuel rates, for a total of 44.8 cents per kWh.
Residential customers using more than 2,000 kWh will be assessed 12.7 cents for electric non-fuel rates and 36.2 cents for fluctuating electric fuel rates, for a total of 48.9 cents per kWh.
These are on top of the fixed customer monthly charges of $5.60 that all residential customers will be paying.
Commercial businesses will pay 8.6 cents in electric non-fuel rates and 36.2 cents for fluctuating electric fuel rates, for a total of 44.8 cents per kWh. Businesses are also required to pay $7.67 in monthly customer charges.
CUC first revised its power rates on May 3, 2008, more than doubling the previous rates.
