The executive director of the Council for Arts and Culture is now the new acting Secretary of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

Cecilia Taitano Celes, who had been the CAC executive director since 2006, was promoted by the Fitial administration on Thursday Aug. 28.

In an interview with Saipan Tribune, Celes said she is excited about her new job because “I’m confident with the elite team in the DCCA.”

“They got me busy on my first two days and here on weekend I’m still working but it’s okay because we really have a lot of things that we need to do,” said Celes at the opening day yesterday of the month-long Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit.

Organized annually by the CAC, this year’s exhibit is being held at the Joeten Motors Co.’s Nissan showroom along Beach Road in San Jose, Saipan.

Celes replaced former DCCA Secretary Melvin O. Faisao. Romana Rebuenog has been appointed to take over Celes’ post as executive director for CAC.

Asked about her new job and the challenges ahead, Celes said she feels good about it and loves the job so much “because if you are passionate about something, you can carry on your responsibilities and provide service to the public as it should be.”

“I’m here to provide support and guidance in every department and make sure that we will be able to work together and maximize those services to the community,” Celes said.
