The Superior Court has imposed a three-day jail term on a man convicted of child abuse.

Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona sentenced Vicente Taitano Fitial to five years in prison, all suspended except for the first three days.

Following a plea agreement, Manglona gave the 59-year-old Fitial credit for three days he already served in jail.

The defendant was placed on one year of probation. He was required to pay a $100 court assessment fee and $100 in annual probation fee.

Manglona ordered Fitial to write a letter of apology and have no further altercations with the 12-year-old child.

Fitial was also directed to perform 200 hours of community work service at a minimum of 10 hours per month.

The judge ordered the defendant to return to court for a review hearing on Dec. 10, 2008 at 9am.

“Defendant’s failure to appear will result in the issuance of a bench warrant,” Manglona said.

The Attorney General’s Office filed the case in 2006. Fitial signed a plea agreement with the government. He pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse.
