The Kristo Rai Parish is currently implementing cost cutting measures because of the high cost of power, affecting churchgoers attending daily Masses.

Parish priest Glen Ragsag said they paid about $4,000 for their electricity bills in the month of August alone.

This prompted them to stop the air conditioning system during the daily Mass services, except Sunday.

Fr. Ragsag said the proceeds of the golf tournament fundraising at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort last Sept. 27 that was intended for repairs at the church would be used for operational expenses instead.

Tournament coordinator Margaret Dela Cruz said they are still finalizing the exact amount of the funds raised in the tournament.

The amount will be known today.

A record of 85 players joined the annual tournament. Each player paid an entry fee of $100.

Last year, the organizers raised over $10,000.

Fr. Ragsag said this would not be enough if this amount is used for renovation.

Dela Cruz said the fund they have raised would be put into the general operations fund that could be used for repairs or to defray expenses such as electricity bills.

She said they are currently implementing major renovations at the church. Several leaks in the roof of the social hall were recently found. She said these need immediate repairs.
