2 jobless workers allegedly resort to car burglary
Two jobless alien workers allegedly burglarized two parked cars in Chalan Kanoa and stole battery and airbags from the vehicles Friday early morning.
Xi Wen Li, 35, was arrested for burglary and criminal mischief, while Ying Xiang Cao, 42, was apprehended for burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
A $10,000 cash bail each was initially imposed on the defendants. A bail hearing was set yesterday morning in the Superior Court.
Detective Abraham C. Villagomez stated in his report that a caller reported to the Department of Public Safety on Friday at 2:04am about a burglary and theft incident at the former Joeten Shopping Center in Chalan Kanoa.
Villagomez said when two police officers responded to the scene they observed two Chinese men, later identified as Li and Cao, inside a white station wagon parked directly near the former Joeten Shopping Center.
The officers later learned from the caller that he saw the two men breaking into a car that was parked in front of Sun Signs, which is located near the former Joeten.
One officer observed two damaged cars in front of Sun Signs.
The gray car had a shattered rear passenger side window and its hood was slightly open. The air bag was missing.
The blue car had a shattered rear passenger side window and its hood was slightly open. Nothing was missing from its interior.
A friend of the owner of the gray car was called to the scene. The friend identified the vehicle battery and airbags inside the suspects’ station wagon as belonging to the gray car.
Police said Li and Cao admitted breaking into the two vehicles and stealing airbags and battery from the gray car.
The suspects allegedly admitted selling the vehicle battery and airbags to an auto shop to make money because they are jobless.
