Preliminary data from the Public School System shows a slight decrease in overall student enrollment.

As of Sept. 22, PSS had 11,069 students enrolled in the elementary, secondary, Early Intervention Program, and Headstart program, according to PSS Education Commissioner Rita Sablan, who presented the numbers to Board of Education members last week.

The number is a slight decrease from the 11,262 enrolled last fall.

In fall 2006, 11,664 students were enrolled in the respective schools and programs.

This year, according to Sablan’s preliminary numbers, there are 5,570 elementary students. In fall 2007, 5,706 elementary students were enrolled. There are 4,976 secondary students this fall, compared to 5,036 last fall.

There are 61 students in the Early Intervention Program, an increase from the 58 in the program last year. Headstart numbers remained the same at 462.

Official numbers will be presented to the Board of Education at their next meeting.
