GES in need of a playground
Garapan Elementary School Principal Yvonne Reyes is still hoping a school playground will be a reality for students this school year.
“I really want a playground when you think about the kids needing the release of energy,” she said.
The school closed the old playground because the old equipment were rusty and posed a danger to students, Reyes said.
“Now they just have a lawn and each other, which is going to make more contact with each other,” she said, adding that disciplinary problems sometimes arise with the increased contact.
Approximately $18,000 has been raised for a playground but $10,000 more is needed, she said.
Two new classrooms have opened at GES this school year in temporary typhoon buildings. A fourth grade class and a first grade class are housed in the classrooms.
