Seven teams have already submitted their final rosters for the first basketball tournament organized by the Pilipino Contract Workers Association.

Sponsored by Pacific Trading Co., the league will be officially known as the PILCOWA/San Miguel Beer Basketball League.

The event will kick-off this Sunday, Oct. 12, at the CIC Centre basketball court at the back of the building of the same name along Beach Road in Garapan.

The teams that have so far submitted their lineups are Olivos, PTI, MIGS, AON Insurance, Century Insurance, C&R Distributors (NRG), and Pacific Trading.

PILCOWA sports coordinator Pando Muleta said two more teams have signified their intention to join the league.

Meanwhile, all teams and their players, in complete uniform with their muses in toe, are advised to take part in the parade during the colorful opening ceremony.

Muleta is reminding the participating teams that there would be awards for best muse and best in uniform during the ceremony.

The assembly time for the parade will be at 3:30pm near the Garapan Fishing Base, across the Horigichi Building

Each team is composed of 14 players with an entry fee of $500 per team. The fee could be paid in full or with a 50-percent down payment but a team must make sure to pay the 50 percent balance after its first two games or before playing its third game.

Earlier, organizers have initially agreed for awards and other side events relating to the tournament such as championship trophy, individual medals, mythical five selection, MVP, best in rebound, assist, steal, and 3-points.

There is also a plan to hold an all-star game before the playoffs.

Muleta envisions an NBA or PBA style of league, adding that the side events would encourage more participation from the Filipino community on Saipan and join hopefully some of them would be encouraged to join PILCOWA. The group is headed by its president Ronnie Doca.
