Acme Roofing remained unbeaten as it led three other teams to the winners’ circle in Thursday’s games in the 2008 Miller Lite Four-Person Beach Volleyball League at the Pacific Islands Club sand court.

Acme Roofing swept the MHS Oakies in three sets, 21-15, 21-18, 21-16, to improve to a 5-0 record and strengthen its hold to the No. 1 spot in the 11-team league.

The Larry Sheri-led squad is the only undefeated team in the league. Other members of Acme Roofing are Jazz Roscow, Rob Jordan, Luther Taylor, JR Ngeskebei, Elizabeth Henke, Jenny Brown, and Dana McFadden.

Also winning Thursday night were the MHS Peers, Enyonphace, and Kimoichi.

Enyophace and the MHS Peers posted contrasting wins to have identical 3-1 records.

Enyophace won all three sets of its game against MHS Serves Up!, 21-5, 21-16, 21-8, to claim the solo second place in the team standings.

Actually, besides Enyophace and the MHS Peers, two other teams hold similar 3-2 slates, but Enyonphace nailed the solo No. 2 spot with its 249 points and 10 sets won. The MHS Peers scored 223 points in four games, while Karakuchi and Thai One On tallied 236 and 231, respectively.

The MHS Peers handed Karakuchi its first loss in the tournament after winning two of their three-set match.

The MHS Peers secured the game early after sweeping the first two sets. They needed an extra point to pull off a 22-20 win in the first set, but had an easier time in the second set, cruising to a 21-11 triumph. Karakuchi foiled a MHS Peers sweep when it prevailed in the third set, 21-14.

In the last game of the night, Kimoichi recovered from an opening set loss to beat Champ-on and gain its second win in four games.

Champ-on, which is composed of Gin Gridley, Edwin Paasian, Jhie Vallo, Mika Okubo, JR Gechig, Jonas Barcinas, and Scotty Silva, won the first set, 21-18.

But Kimoichi, whose members include Jessica Uematsu, Jeff Cloud, Clark Boswell, Keoni Ichihara, Nicole French, Louise Oakley, and Kegn Hall, redeemed itself in the second set with a 21-16 victory.

Kimoichi completed a come-from-behind win with after whipping Champ-on in the third set, 21-7.

Champ-On remained winless in the league after four games, joining MHS Serves Up! and the MHS 67 Doh-Fins at the bottom of the team standings with similar 0-4 slates.

Kimoichi moved up from seventh to sixth place, ahead by 23 points against Off Twice, which also has a 2-2 record, but scored only 185 points and won four sets. Kimoichi nailed 208 points after four games, winning five sets.

Action in the annual league will continue on Tuesday with the MHS 67 Doh-Fins hoping to enter the win column as they collide with Off Twice in the first game at 5:30pm.

In the second match at 6:30pm, the MHS Peers will duel Enyophace with both teams aiming to inch closer to the league-leading Acme Roofing.

Acme Roofing will be looking to extend its winning streak to six when it faces Karakuchi in the last game of the night at 8:30pm.

In the third game at 7:30pm, Kimoichi will go for its third straight win when it squares off with Thai One On.

This year’s 4-person beach volleyball league will have a round-robin regular season with the top eight teams advancing to the single-elimination playoffs.
