NMC board approves show-cause report
Sourcing of funds, recruitment of highly qualified staff, professional development and evaluating students’ performance in the classroom were some of the issues addressed in a report approved by the Board of Regents of the Northern Marianas College this week.
Members of the board voted to accept the so-called show-cause report during their regular meeting on Wednesday Oct. 15.
The report demonstrates how the school resolved the recommendations earlier identified by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez in a statement yesterday.
The report, which was prepared by the president and her staff, is in response to the ACCJC’s “show-cause” letter on Jan. 31, 2008.
“Today is a great day for the college,” Fernandez said during her presentation to the board. “We are submitting to the commission the evidence of all the efforts undertaken by students, staff, faculty and board members.”
Fernandez thanked the support they received from the community the past few months, including Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and his administration, Senate President Pete Reyes, Speaker Arnold Palacios, members of the Legislature, and Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio.
Board chair Charles Cepeda was pleased with the contents of the report, saying it was a product of many months of hard work and dedication by the students, staff, faculty and board members.
“We look forward to the arrival of the ACCJC delegation next month so they can see first-hand the progress we have made to meet accreditation standards,” Cepeda said.
NMC said the accrediting commission could now evaluate the report.
The ACCJC is set to send its accrediting officers in the first week of November.
