Organizers of the 2008-2009 Men’s and Women’s Inter-government/Business Softball League are reminding teams that tomorrow is the last day to pay the entrance fee of $350.

Teams that will not be able to pay the registration fee will not be allowed to participate in the annual league.

“The league will enforce a no pay, no play rule,” said organizer Joey Dela Cruz of the Division of Sports and Recreation.

Dela Cruz added that a final meeting is set for tomorrow. Representatives of teams participating in the men’s division are asked to attend a meeting at 9:30am, while the meeting for the women’s division is scheduled at 1pm.

So far, 13 teams from various government agencies have shown their interests in competing in the men’s division. The list include defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Procurement & Supply, Public School System, Division of Environmental Quality/Coastal Resources Management, Commonwealth Ports Authority, Legislature, Parks and Recreation, Hopwood, Judiciary, and Customs.

The business sector is represented by Beach Boys, Freedom Air, Joeten, Pacific Islands Club, SaipanCell, and POI.

Only six teams are listed in the women’s division, namely the defending champion DCCA, Northern Marianas College, PSS, Finance, Commonwealth Health Center, and the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

Games in the softball league will be played three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Three games are set per playing day.

The men’s division will have a round-robin format in the regular season with the Top 10 teams advancing to the double-elimination playoffs.

The women’s division will play in a three-round robin regular season with the Top 4 squads going into the playoffs, which will also have a double-elimination format.

Matches will be played at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield with the opening games to be discussed in tomorrow’s meeting.

If the “Tan Ge” ballfield is unplayable, games will be moved to the Capital Hill Ballfield.
