Acme Roofing recovered from an opening set loss against Off Twice at the start of the playoffs in the 2008-2009 Coalition of Private Schools Volleyball League Tuesday night on the PIC sand court to move into the semifinals along with three other teams.

Off Twice stunned pennant champion Acme Roofing in the first set, 21-18, before the latter regained its bearings and swept the last two sets, 21-9, 21-17, to claim the first semis ticket.

Acme Roofing was seeded first in the playoffs after posting a perfect 10-0 record in the regular season. Off Twice was the last team to make it to the playoffs after notching a 5-5 mark.

In the second playoff match, Thai One On had an easier ride to the next round when it swept the MHS Peers, 21-16, 21-15.

In the playoffs, the team to win the first two sets does not need to play the third set. In the regular season, a third set was required regardless of the results of the first two sets for rankings purposes.

Acme Roofing and Thai One On will duel for the first finals seat today at 5:30pm.

The other semis pairing will feature Karakuchi colliding with Enyophace at 6:30pm.

Karakuchi secured the third semis slot after pulling off a come-from-behind win in the deciding third set.

Karakuchi drew first blood, taking the opening set, 21-14, but Kimoichi forced a third set after prevailing in the second set, 21-18.

In the third set, Kimochi still had the momentum taking a 16-11 lead. But Karakuchi recovered behind Rob Epley’s impressive service game, Marino Pungilung and Carie Schuler’s hustle play, and Kirk Schuler’s tricky hits on the net.

Karakuchi took the third semis slot after a 21-17 victory in the third set.

Enyophace was off to a hot start winning the first set, 21-11. But the MHS Oakies refused to give up and eked out a 21-18 victory in the second set to keep it semis bid alive.

In the third set, Enyophace ended the MHS Oakies campaign in the fall league with the former cruising to a 21-9 triumph.

Winners of tonight’s semis matches will duel for the title at 7:30pm.
