Man gives hitcher a ride, gets stabbed
A 33-year-old man was injured when a man he was giving a free ride in his car stabbed him repeatedly and took his vehicle in Chalan Kanoa Monday night, the Department of Public Safety said yesterday.
DPS acting spokesperson Police Officer 2 Jason T. Tarkong said the victim, a Chinese, suffered multiple lacerations and stab wounds on the right arm, chest, rib, and stomach.
Tarkong said police have a name and description of the suspect, but they are withholding the information pending further investigation.
Tarkong said the victim’s car—a gray 1995 Toyota Tercel—was later discovered by police abandoned on Haiguas Lane in As Perdido.
DPS received a 911 call about an injured person near LJ’s Market in Chalan Kanoa Monday night.
When a police officer arrived, he saw the victim lying on the ground. He was bleeding from the right arm and chest.
The victim told the officer that he gave the suspect a ride in his car from Happy Market in As Lito to Chalan Kanoa.
Upon reaching a secondary road near LJ Market in Chalan Kanoa, the suspect reached for the ignition of the car, turned the car off, and got the car keys.
The suspect then started to stab the victim. The victim managed to run away through the driver’s door.
The suspect then drove off with the car.
The bloodied victim yelled out for help. Several people nearby assisted him and called the police.
Medics arrived and transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was treated.
Tarkong did not mention the type of weapon used in the stabbing.
Tarkong said that crime scene technicians processed the victim’s vehicle and secured it at DPS Central as evidence.
