Check the Covenant!

Appalling the view rendered by Ms. Wendy Doromal on a report commissioned by the governor to analyze the effects of federal takeover of labor and immigration as “propaganda.” But it isn’t so appalling given her obvious intransigence to accepting the validity of expert research that led to the conclusion of economic annihilation.

There are two issues that come to mind as I ponder her views. They are: 1). What has Ms. Doromal done to put Uncle Sam in check on his obligation under the Covenant Agreement to “provide for a progressively higher standard of living” for Chamorros and Carolinians? 2). Given the same opportunity to analyze the same set of laws, would her conclusions be different from what expert views have concluded?

Ms. Doromal, show me one concrete undertaking you’ve done on a unilateral basis to improve the lot of at least 80 percent of the indigenous people. I mean, you were and still are at the forefront to assist foreigners—non-indigenous people—secure what the Covenant doesn’t provide, at the expense of violating our inalienable rights to greater self-government. Take a quick glimpse at the Covenant Agreement, an agreement concluded between two sovereign entities and be guided accordingly.

It’s a clever tactic to employ human rights as part of your agenda to attract national sound bites. Has it ever occurred to you that the huge employers aren’t, by any stretch of the imagination, indigenous-owned factories? Is it fair that we bear the brunt of all that foreigners have inflicted against our people and ruined reputation of these islands?

But then at the end of the day, Ms Doromal, we are the permanent hosts of these isles and have found your agenda and other similar groups smelling like spoiled French cheese deteriorating under the sun. Enough is enough! And I am ready to take you or anyone else to task henceforth. Nahoñg na insuttu in chalegua kontra i natibun este siha na islas. Tonta!
