‘La Fiesta’s 3 gensets too expensive to repair’

There are no plans at this point to add the three unused generators at La Fiesta shopping complex to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s power grid, said CUC executive director Antonio Muña.

There are no plans at this point to add the three unused generators at La Fiesta shopping complex to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s power grid, said CUC executive director Antonio Muña.

CUC has examined the condition of the three generators—each capable of producing one-megawatt of power each—but, Muña said, the engines may not be serviceable because of their condition.

“By the time I got on board, the generators there and the infrastructure there needed to be hooked up to the grid,” he said. “[It] needed to be refurbished to bring it up to the point where it could generate to the grid. Before we could utilize it, we have to make that investment.”

“It’s a substantial investment to make it part of the production process,” he added.

The engines were originally used to provide power solely to La Fiesta and Palms Resort, but in the past CUC has managed to utilize the generators’ three megawatts to provide power to nearby villages by installing a transformer and switchgears to the mall’s power generation system.
