Man nabbed for alleged domestic violence on Tinian
Tinian police arrested over the weekend a 28-year-old man who allegedly beat up his wife several times, including flicking a burning cigarette on her face.
Leon Joaquin A. Sanchez was arrested for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
During yesterday’s hearing, Superior Court associate judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a $100 cash bail and $900 unsecured bond for the temporary release of Sanchez.
Govendo set the arraignment for Dec. 9.
Detective Barbara K. Arend stated in her report that the victim first called the Tinian Department of Public Safety last Aug. 1 for police assistance.
According to the victim, Sanchez came to her office the previous day and threatened her with a knife by stabbing it on the table.
The victim said Sanchez entered her boss’s office like he was looking for something. He then asked the victim why she didn’t come home the night before.
The victim said that last July 29 Sanchez picked her up from work and when she told him that she had to change shift with her co-worker, he prevented her from doing so. When they arrived home he searched her body for kiss marks and then allegedly pushed her against the cabinet and slapped her face.
She alleged that during previous fights, he would slap her, slam her into the wall and push her to the floor. Sometimes he would sit on her back, choke her, and flick a burning cigarette on her face.
The police did not state why it took them that long to finally arrest the suspect.
