Diamond Auto Care’s Sonny Ranola and MIGS’ Bonbon Cadagat took the highest individual honors during the award ceremony for the Inaugural 2008 PILCOWA-San Miguel Beer Basketball League Saturday night at the CIC Centre Basketball Court in Garapan.

Cadagat was adjudged the most valuable player in the regular season, while Ranola claimed the Finals MVP trophy.

The MIGS playmaker led his team to a 5-1 record in the regular season averaging close to 30 points per game.

Cadagat helped MIGS reach the finals of the inaugural league winning over San Miguel Light and Century Insurance in the playoffs.

MIGS dueled Diamond Auto Care in the one-game finals, and lost by only two points in the double overtime championship, 99-101, with Ranola making the game-winning basket in the last four seconds of the match.

Ranola had an off night scoring only seven points in the regulation and none in the first overtime. He missed a couple of shots in the second before drilling a nail-biting jumper from the right corner to hand Diamond the championship trophy.

Helping Ranola give a championship trophy to Diamond was teammate Elmer Esdrelon, who was part of the Mythical Team. The list also includes Cadagat and his MIGS teammate Kae Barnardo, Century’s Larry Palero, and C&R Distributors/NRG’s Jericho Cruz.

Members of the Mythical Five received medals, while the top performers in various categories were given trophies.

Century’s Wowie Abuel topped the steals department averaging 2.3 steals per game. Bernardo was the king of the boards averaging 13.6 rebounds per match, while NRG’s Jun Estolas ruled the assists department with his 4.3 feeds per game. Estolas’ teammate—Badong Camacho—led the league in blocks with two per match.

Diamond mentor Boy Garcia was awarded the Best Coach trophy, while San Miguel Light took the Sportsmanship Award.

Meanwhile, PILCOWA would like to thank the following for supporting their inaugural league: Tan Holdings Corp., Century Insurance, Athlete’s Foot, Carpet Masters, Dental Care, Elite Printing, Guangdong Hardware, Inkbox, National Office Supply, Sherwin Williams, Tony Roma’s, Western Union, and Gold’s Gym.
