A masked man robbed a 78-year-old man who was sitting outside his home in Chalan Kanoa last week, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.

DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said the victim lost his black shoulder bag containing an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim sustained abrasions on the right knee and left elbow. He refused medical treatment.

The suspect was described as 5’4” tall, slim and with light complexion. He was reportedly wearing slippers and a dark colored cloth to conceal his face during the robbery.

Ogumoro said that last Thursday at 8:01pm, DPS received a report of a robbery that occurred at a residence in Chalan Kanoa.

Ogumoro said police gathered that while the victim was sitting outside his house, a man wearing a mask and green short pants ran toward him.

The suspect pushed the victim off his chair and grabbed his shoulder bag.

The suspect then ran toward the beach area. When the victim was about to call the police, the suspect came back with a metal pipe. The robber demanded money, but the victim told him he did not have any.

The suspect subsequently fled toward the beach.

“This case is under investigation,” Ogumoro said.
