Sorene A. Maratita said she loves driving her new car, a new Hyundai Accent that she will use for one year, courtesy of Triple J Motors, as one of her prizes following her triumph in the 2008 Miss Marianas Universe pageant.

The 18-year old Maratita will soon start her several community service activities using the 4-cylinder engine sedan.

Laila Boyer, president of the non-profit organization Stellar Marianas that organized the beauty pageant, said Maratita would be leading a fundraising campaign for children as well as other Christmas gift-giving activities at the hospital and for the man’amko.

She will also be helping programs that provide shelter to those in need and join in discussions on social issues such as domestic violence.

Triple J sales manager Ben Lizama turned over the key to Maratita in the presence of Triple J’s Randy Steele and Boyer.

Lizama said he just wants to extend his personal congratulations to Maratita for winning the pageant as well as for her new car.

“She can use the car and go wherever she wants but she would pay for the gas,” Lizama explained.

The car had been insured and is guaranteed for one year’s free maintenance.

Maratita may even own the car by buying it after a year if she opts for it, Lizama said.

This, he said, happened once in 1996, when the pageant winner bought the car after the expiration of her winning prize.

“We’re very grateful for Triple J for its continuing commitment as a partner. This car will be an important aspect in our many community activities and events,” Boyer said.

Maratita will be representing the CNMI in the 2009 Miss Universe and Miss International contests, aside from winning other prizes such as $1,000 cash and $1,000 scholarships from Stellar Marianas.
