Where is Saipan: Part 2

Where is Saipan? asked by Mr. George. No one—not a one in the time since I moved away from the CNMI—has known anything about Saipan. Not the USA consulate in Panama who said I had to prove I lived inside the USA knew, not the immigration officers in Florida, not a single U.S. citizen other than those I knew from my time in Micronesia—not anyone. When I told others where it was, they only knew what was written in magazines about sweatshops. They expressed dismay and negative attitudes. I did not say much but asked questions and found they were quite ignorant in all ways in reference to the CNMI. I’m not much for generalizations, but I’m sure others will find that very, very few really know much at all about the CNMI, its citizens, its economic needs, its business, or its history. The sad part is those that know so little may be in control of its future, and many non-citizens and newcomers welcome this.
