Man allegedly hit minor son with belt buckle
A man allegedly hit his son on the body with a belt buckle for refusing to shower and go to school Thursday morning.
Erwin Evence, 33, was arrested for child abuse or child neglect.
The boy sustained a bruise on his back, police said.
Detective Patrick E. Maanao stated in his report that police responded to a residence in Susupe after receiving a child abuse complaint.
Maanao said that when a police officer arrived at the house, Evence stated that he had scolded his son for not showering so he could go to school.
The officer noticed that Evence didn’t seem to want the officer to see the child. The officer also observed a bruise on the child’s back.
When asked about the bruise, Evence first stated he merely spanked the child, but later admitted he used a belt, Maanao said.
The responding officer noted that the markings on the bruise were consistent with the belt buckle design.
Evence was then placed under arrest.
Maanao said some family members disclosed that they also saw bruises on the boy in the past.
At yesterday’s hearing, Superior Court associate judge Ramona M. Manglona imposed a $5,000 cash bail for Evence’s temporary liberty.
Preliminary hearing was set for Dec. 18.
