Schools invited to Christmas caging
The Division of Youth Services, Mayor’s Office, and Division of Sports and Recreation are inviting schools to participate in the 2008 Annual Christmas Basketball Jam Festival at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The tournament will run from Dec. 27 to Jan. 3 and will have competitions in the girls and boys’ 14-and-under and 18-and-under age groups.
“In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles and keeping youths occupied during the holiday break, we are encouraging all schools and clubs to participate in this tournament,” event coordinator Elias Rangamar said.
Interested teams are asked to submit registration and waiver and rosters forms on or before Dec. 18. Late entries may be accepted if slots are available. Entrance fee is $30 per team.
Coaches are also requested to attend a meeting this Thursday at 4pm at the conference room of the Ada Gym.
“We will make the tournament enjoyable for all youngsters, teams, parents, and fans. An awards banquet will be held immediately after the championship matches. Our goals for this tournament is to provide good competition and promote sportsmanship and camaraderie among participants,” Rangamar said.
