Japanese wins $61K pot in TDHC Blackjack tilt
Oyama Shigeo kept his cool even after winning the all-Japanese finals of the Blackjack Tournament Championship at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino Sunday night, Dec. 14.
But with the $61,000 prize he pocketed for besting six other compatriots who made it to the final table, Shigeo had the sweetest smile during the awarding ceremonies.
“Thank you,” was the only thing he managed to say while accepting his giant paycheck.
Fujita Kiichi placed second and pocketed $25,000 while Hiraide Isamu was third and settled for the $15,000 purse.
The next four players who joined the seven-man final table in the second day of the two-day tournament went home with $1,000 each.
The list included Uchimura Yoshihide (4th), Tai Kaname (5th), Karakama Nobuo (6th), and Ichihara Yasuo (7th),
With an entry fee of $1,000, a total of 105 players participated in this season ending tournament. The players were mostly from Japan.
Players were trimmed down to 49 in the semifinal stage, including four players who advanced via the wildcard entry.
There were a total of 15 from Korea but no one was able to make it to the final table.
Tournament director Tony Jackson said there were a total of seven tournaments in 2008, including five Baccarats and two Blackjacks.
Overall, Jakcson said they had a very successful year at the Casino and they are hoping for a bigger and better tournament in 2009.
“It has been a fantastic year,” Jackson said.
Casino Marketing & Promotions coordinator Kiri Jackson said the number of participants this time is slightly smaller compared to previous tournaments.
But she said it is always expected for a Blackjack tournament to have a smaller number of participants compared to Baccarat.
The following are the confirmed schedules for next year: For Baccarat, Jan. 17-18, March 14-15, July 11-12, Sept. 12-13 and Oct. 17-18 and for Blackjack, June 13-14 and Dec. 12-13.
