Man allegedly assaults, robs a female Beach Road jogger
A 32-year old man who allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed a female jogger along Beach Road was arrested by police Friday night.
The suspect, Alfred Obak, later told police that he was drunk and high on marijuana when he committed the crime.
Court documents state that the suspect stole the victim’s $20 during the assault.
He is now charged with robbery and second-degree sexual assault and assault and battery.
During the bail hearing Monday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a $21,000 cash bail on the suspect. He failed to post bail.
Govendo set the preliminary hearing to Dec. 22 and arraignment is on Dec. 29.
According to the statement of Detective Abraham C. Villagomez, the victim told police that she was walking south along the Beach Road pathway in San Jose near the Oleai Beach Bar & Grill around 7:10pm on Dec. 12 when the suspect came from behind and pushed her to the ground.
The victim alleged that Obak touched her private parts and groped her right breast.
The woman said she tried to fight back by kicking him but felt that she was no match against his strength, so she screamed for help.
At her scream, the suspect stopped attacking her but grabbed her right ankle and began pulling her to the beachside. The suspect then tried to choke the victim but she screamed again and that’s when the suspect took off, running north along the beach side.
The victim immediately called 911 and reported the incident to the police.
Police Sgt. Sylvan Rangamar immediately responded and found the suspect at the CUC Pump Station No. 12. Police said the suspect was sweating profusely. They brought the victim to the location and she positively identified Obak as the person who allegedly attacked her.
Obak later explained that he was forced to do what he did due to family problems. He said he spent his last money on beer and had smoked a joint before the incident.
Obak allegedly told police that, after he finished his beer, he saw the victim pass along the pathway so he followed her until he got close to the Oleai Beach Club where he tried to rob her.
