Commonwealth Health Center needed an extra inning to thwart Legislature, 7-6, in the men’s division game in the 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League Friday night at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.

Second baseman Dennis Renguul hit a one-run single at the top of the eighth inning, while pitcher Al Ngiraibuuch had two strikeouts at the bottom to give CHC its second win in six games.

The match ended at 6-all after seven complete innings, following Legislature’s rally at the bottom of the seventh.

Legislature shut out CHC at the top of the seventh and tallied four earned runs at the bottom to send the game to an extra inning.

Extra hitter Ben Higgins led off for CHC and tripled. He later reached home plate on a Renguul single to give their team a 7-6 lead.

Renguul was beaten to third in the next play, Randall Aguon was tagged out to second, and Vince Rabauliman was beaten to first ending the top of the seventh.

Third baseman Ross Manglona led off for Legislature and flied out to centerfield, while Ngiraibuuch shut out second and third batters Chico Ilo and Dennis Cabrera to preserve CHC’s victory.

Legislature absorbed their second loss in a row and dropped to a 4-3 slate.
Beach Boys 7, Jets 3

In the other game in the men’s division, the Beach Boys shut out the Joeten Motors Jets in the last four innings to nail a 7-3 victory.

The win put the Beach Boys in a tie for third place with Freedom Air, as both teams have 5-1 records. The Jets dropped from third to fourth with their 5-2 mark.

The Jets scored two runs at the bottom of the first and only one in the third.

The game was still tied at 2-all after three complete innings when a three-run top of the fourth gave the Beach Boys control of the match. The Beach Boys never looked back from thereon, making two more runs in the last three innings, while their outfielders continued to make life miserable for Jets batters.
WOMEN’S

In the women’s division, league-leading Northern Marianas College improved to a 6-0 record after an easy 12-2 triumph over CHC.

The game ended after only five innings, as a six-run top of the second allowed NMC to break the game wide open.

CHC scored only in the second and fifth inning dropping to a 1-4 record for a share of the bottom of the team standings with CHC.

The victory put NMC three wins ahead of defending champion DCCA.

Vanessa Mobel was 3-for-3 at-bat for NMC and had two RBIs.

Polly Omechelang pitched for NMC in the first three innings, allowed only two hits, and struck out two. Felisa Brel replaced her in the third inning with the former allowing no hits for a 10-run mercy rule win.
