NMC keeps winning streak
Seven and still counting.
Northern Marianas College nailed its seventh win in as many games after thwarting Finance, 9-7, in the women’s division game in the 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League Monday night at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
NMC is a win away from sweeping the second round of the three-round robin regular season and is four games ahead of its closest pursuer—defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs (3-2).
A six-run top of the first gave NMC control of the game and although Finance tied the game after four innings, the former shut out the latter in the last three to preserve the win.
Shortstop Joyce Taro anchored NMC’s good start making a two-run single in the first inning. NMC failed to score in the next two and had only one run in the fourth inning.
Finance’s Pauline Tudela’s two-run triple cut NMC’s lead to four runs, 2-6, after one complete inning and Finance went on to tie the game in the fourth inning, 7-all, after scoring two runs each in the second and fourth and one in the third.
But a two-run homer from Kuki Pangelinan at the top of the fifth allowed NMC to regain the lead, 9-7.
Finance never recovered from thereon absorbing its fourth loss in six games.
