Macaranas elected chair of new CCLPC board
The newly appointed members of the Chamorro Carolinian Language Policy Commission have elected William I. Macaranas as chairman of the board.
Macaranas is a former executive director for the CCLPC.
The election was held during the board’s first organizational meeting on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Office on Aging.
The other elected officers of the eight-person board were Vincent M. Rabauliman (vice chairman), Tita Hocog from Rota (secretary) and Ben Borja (treasurer).
The other four members include Maria P. Mafnas, Rosa R. Warakai, Vivian W. Odoshi and Angelina C. Fitial.
Commission director David R. Omar said the board is tasked to review the new Public Law 15-96, which repealed and re-enacted the Commonwealth Code pertaining to the Chamorro Carolinian Language Policy Commission.
He said the members would also review the existing by-laws for the Commission due to the changes in the mandates of the new law.
The board would also finalize the draft for the criteria for certification of translators.
Omar said that board members expressed their appreciation to the efforts of administrative officer Cindy Reyes for setting up all the meeting.
Reyes served as the interim secretary during the meeting.
Omar said the next meeting for the board is set on Jan. 10, 2009, at the Office on Aging’s Conference Room.
In his report to the new board, Omar said the commission had been working with other agencies to further its mission, goals and objectives.
CCLPC is currently involved in the Chamorro Dictionary project.
Acting Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Ramona Rebuenog also graced the occasion to welcome and congratulate the new board in the absence of Cecilia T. Celes.
