Lady Kingfishers advance to U12 finals
William S. Reyes Elementary School booked a finals ticket in the girls division of the 2008 NMIFA U12 Interscholastic Football League after outclassing Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School in the crossover semifinals, 2-1, Thursday at the Garapan Elementary School Field.
The Lady Kingfishers made all their goals in the second half with Scarla Renguul nailing one in the 27th minute and teammate Mary Jane Rengiil firing the second goal for WSR in the 38th minute.
GTC scored the first goal of the match in the 4th minute of the first half.
Lady Kingfishers coach Melissa Dickinson said they will go all out in the finals since this is the first time that they moved into the title game.
“Since I took over the team, the highest place we achieved was fourth last year. We hope to win the title with out teamwork, good communication, and peaceful play,” Dickinson said.
Besides Rengiil and Renguul, other members of WSR’s girls team are Almina Deleon Guerrero, Alyssa Benavente, Gina Rudolph. Guillerma Corpuz, Melony David, Alyssa Villagas, Earlynn Ngirlamuut, Maria Valencia, Luisa Marie Camacho, and Eddianne Cabrera.
WSR will play in tomorrow’s finals the winner of the Whisperings Palms/Brilliant Star vs. No. 1 team in the Southern Group.
Only the Northern Group had completed its standings in the regular season with GTC finishing first and Whispering Palms/Brilliant Star placing second in the girls division.
Only the top two teams from the Northern and Southern groups advance to the playoffs.
In the boys division, Whispering Palms/Brilliant Star finished first in the Northern Group, while Saipan International School was second.
The title and consolation matches in this year’s U12 league will be played at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
Consolation games will be played starting at 1pm, while the girls championship is set for 2:30pm, The boys title match will be played at 3:30pm, while an award ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the championship match.
