Wushin Corp. is doing its share to help save the environment with its introduction of refillable canisters for liquefied petroleum gas.

Since its arrival on the island in the middle of this year, sales of the company’s refillable LPG canisters have been on the rise, according to Wushin operations supervisor Jun Patawaran.

He said they average around 100 refills a day since operation started in August.

While customers initially need to shell out $1 for each refillable LPG canister, refilling it is only a fraction of the cost at $0.65 per pop.

And canister users don’t need to drive to the company’s Lower Base location each time they need a refill, as full refillable LPG canisters can be purchased in five retail stores around the island—Happy Market in As Lito and Lower Navy Hill, Dolphin Wholesale in San Jose, Alpex Showroom in Chalan Laolao, and Highway Express Shell Gas Station along Middle Road in Gualo Rai.

Wushin’s refillable LPG canisters also produce a more powerful blue flame than its counterparts in the market. It also has a longer burning time, which is approximately an hour and 35 minutes, according to Patawaran.

Aside from the obvious cost savings, Patawaran said customers should also be happy to know that using the company’s refillable LPG canisters helps reduce the accumulation of trash in the islands’ limited dumpsites.

He said traditional butane canisters are not reusable, unlike his company’s refillable LPG canisters, which their mother company in South Korea said can last virtually for decades.

Patawaran, however, said that their refillable LPG canisters cannot work with just any ordinary portable gas ranges and customers need to bring them in for modifications.

The modifications are for free and lasts only a few minutes. But he said they are only able to modify relatively new and functioning well burners; old and rickety ones will be harder to fix.

Wushin was estasblished in 1981 and its first LPG facility was built in As Lito. It moved to Puerto Rico in 1996.
