Kabiriel tops SSC Jingle Bell 5K Fun Run
Veteran runner Jack Kabiriel ruled the Saipan Swim Club 2008 Annual Jingle Bell 5K Run held last week outracing about 100 participants.
Kabiriel finished the race from Garapan Fishing Base to Minatchom Atdao Pavilion across the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in 17 minutes, 38 seconds.
Reaching the finish line by only seven seconds behind Kabiriel was another frequent fun run participant—Matt Mancao, who timed in at 17:45. He was the first student finisher.
In the women’s division, Nikki Gabaldon was ahead of the pack of adult participants, clocking in at 20:49, while All Schools cross country champion Gabrielle Race was the top finisher in the female students division timing in at 28:59.
Last week’s fun run was SSC’s last event for the year and organizers were thankful it went ahead without a hitch.
“SSC is pleased that it did not rain during the race. The Jingle Bell run has become a holiday tradition for most of the Islanders. Hearing all the bells jingling as runners past by, it was as if Santa’s sleigh was near,” SSC treasurer Lisa Kimball said.
Aside from the veteran runners on Saipan, the Jingle Bell run was participated in by SSC swimmers themselves, their parents, and supporters of the club.
The event is a fundraiser, as proceeds in the fun run will be used for SSC’s operational expenses.
SSC thanked the following for supporting the fun run: Marianas Eye Institute; Pacific Island Club; Saipan Computer Services; Hardt Eye Clinic; Saipan Ice & Water Co.; Saipan Shipping Co.; Dolphin Wholesale; National Office Supply; PTI, Pacific Trading Co; McDonald’s; Western Union, Hyatt Regency; Shell Marianas; Marianas Visitors Bureau; and the American Red Cross CNMI Chapter.
