SSC tankers joining Guam meet
Saipan Swim Club bets will close out the 2008 season with a stint in the Guam International Swim Meet at the Hagatna Swimming Pool this weekend.
SSC coach Michael Blasberg said so far eight SSC swimmers have confirmed their participation in the Guam meet, which will run from Dec. 27 and 28.
The list include siblings Grace and Andrew Kimball, Emma and Abigail Martinsen, Blair Nicholls, Michael Moran, Lester Lapuz, and Victoria Chentsova.
Blasberg said he and co-coach Mike Villagomez are sorting out the events that SSC swimmers will be joining in, but the club and its swimmers are upbeat about the meet.
“The swimmers are very anxious for the Guam meet. This will be their biggest meet so far this season and they’re excited to see how much their times have improved with the months of training,” Blasberg said in an email to Saipan Tribune.
SSC swimmers are coming off personal best performances during last month’s All Schools swim meet.
After the meet early November, SSC swimmers continued their regular practice at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi to prepare for the Guam tournament.
SSC bets train every day with weekdays practices running from 4pm to 6pm. Saturday’s sessions are from 7am to 9am.
This weekend, SSC will go up against swimmers various swim clubs of host Guam.
The two-day meet will also have swimmers from Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan.
Tsunami Saipan is sending five swimmers with veteran tanker Rezne Wong leading the team.
Joining him are Shin and Kensuke Kimura, Kai Staal, and Marystar Welch.
