The island experienced a 2.5-hour power outage yesterday due to a falling electric pole, according to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

Preliminary information shows that an electric pole carrying primary lines in Kagman fell, which tripped Power Plant 1, 2, 4 and the Aggreko generators.

The outage started around 11:30am and lasted until about 2 pm, according to CUC.
The windy weather has been affecting the power lines, CUC said.

The last unplanned islandwide outage was more than a month ago, when the transformer breaker at the Chalan Kiya/Waterloo substation caused engine 8 at Power Plant 1 to fail, causing a chain reaction that brought down all the engines. That outage lasted three hours.
