The 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League returned to action last night at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield after a two-week holiday break.

The league resumed with men’s division defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs being the only undefeated squad in the 20-team field.

DCCA swept its first eight games before the league took a long break to give way to the holiday celebration.

The defending champion was hoping to keep its unbeaten record against Law & Order in the first game last night. In the other men’s game, Commonwealth Ports Authority was playing Commonwealth Health Center in the last game of the night. Results of neither match was available at press time.

CPA has a 6-1 record and is in a three-way tie for second place with Freedom Air and the Beach Boys. CHC is at the lower half of the team standings with a 2-5 record, while Law & Order holds a 3-5 slate.

In the lone women’s game, defending champion DCCA was to face Commonwealth Utilities Corp. DCCA has a 3-2 record and is ranked second in the league behind the unbeaten Northern Marianas College (7-0). CUC is at the bottom of the team standings with only one win in five games.

Meanwhile, games that were cancelled on Dec. 19 will be played tonight at the Capital Hill Ballfield.

In the first game at 6:30pm, PSS will duel DLNR, while CUC will collide with CHC in the women’s match at 7:30pm. The third game at 8:30pm will have P&S meeting the Mayor’s Office.

Liz Palacios, one of the organizers of the league, said games every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will all be played at the “Tan Ge” Ballfield. Make-up games will be played every Tuesday at the Capital Hill Ballfield, which will also be the venue for Thursday matches.

The men’s division has a round-robin format in the regular season, while the women’s category is a three-round robin league.

The league is expected to conclude its regular season last week of March and will start the playoffs in April.
