Madriaga named NMC’s financial, admin officer
Rogelio Madriaga has been named the chief financial and administrative officer for Northern Marianas College.
NMC had been without a CFAO since the summer. Two acting CFAOs held the position until Madriaga was named to the position in December.
As the chief financial and administrative officer, Madriaga said he would oversee the finance office, human resources office, operations and maintenance, and the bookstore.
“I am supposed to take care of the budgeting, fiscal controls and human resources allocations,” he said.
Madriaga said administrators have been focusing on the college’s accreditation and responding to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.
Earlier this year, WASC ordered NMC to provide reasons-or “show cause”-why the college’s accreditation should not be terminated. The show cause order set a timeline for NMC to submit reports to the accrediting agency. WASC should announce their decision on the college’s accreditation this month.
When asked how the process was going, he said it was going extremely well but has been extremely strenuous. Officials have been putting in long hours, including working on holidays and weekends, he added.
Madriaga worked for NMC in the past as director of planning for capital improvement projects. The job evolved into the position of chief financial and administrative officer, he said.
