Joeten Kagman grand opening set for mid-January
After a soft launch a week before Christmas Day, J.C. Tenorio Enterprises, Inc. will officially open Joeten Kagman later this month.
According to the company’s corporate special project manager, Bo Palacios, he hopes to have the $1-million, 5,000-square foot grocery up and running, complete with Joeten’s ubiquitous signage and paved parking lot, in mid-January.
“We plan to have a grand opening in January. …I want to say mid-January. We’re going to work with our vendors to feature some of the great products that we have. The thing about the Kagman community is they like variety,” he said in a recent interview with the Saipan Tribune.
He added that despite the delay, J.C. Tenorio Enterprises is thrilled that Joeten Kagman soft-opened before the end of 2008.
“Kagman is a bright spot for us in Joeten. We finally [soft] opened in Kagman and it wasn’t because of any financial constraints. It was simply because sometimes you get change orders during construction and that pushed back the deadline. We weren’t just able to open as early as we liked, but we [soft] opened before Christmas and we’re happy we’re able to do that.”
Palacios said the outpouring of support since Joeten Kagman soft-opened in Dec. 18, especially from the Kagman community, has been excellent.
“We’ve gotten so many good comments about the opening of our store. Generally, people are saying ‘what took you so long.’ I can’t really answer that, but we’re glad we’re there and the Kagman community has been very supportive of us and we’re extremely happy to extend our services there,” he said.
At the end of the day, Palacios said, Joeten Kagman wants to satisfy the community it serves, and that includes people living in the fastest growing village on Saipan.
“Something about the grocery industry is [that] no two tastes are the same. We’re still trying to get the feel of what people want in Kagman and customers have been great about telling us what they want,” said Palacios. “As we conduct our business there we are going to mold our inventory to what people in Kagman want because it’s important. This is their store. It’s important that the customers get what they want.”
