The federal court granted yesterday the request of the Rota mayor’s son to hire an investigator who will help him study the case.

U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson granted Wilbur Vic Masga Inos’ written motion to hire the investigator who will help him in his robbery case.

Munson said a written order would follow.

The judge also granted Inos’ waiver of his right to a speedy trial to allow him further time to review the evidence in preparation for trial and further time to pursue plea negotiations.

Munson re-set the jury trial to April 27, 2009. The original jury trial schedule was Feb. 17, 2009.

Inos was remanded back into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

Inos was arrested last Dec. 18 after he was indicted with one count of Hobbs Act robbery and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.

The charges were filed in connection with the armed robbery at Rota Poker last Aug. 4.

Police investigation showed that a masked man entered the poker establishment and pointed a rifle at the cashier and demanded money.

Police investigation led to the arrest of Inos. A black AR-15 rifle, its magazine, and three rounds of bullets were also recovered by the police.

The defendant was charged separately in the Superior Court over that robbery. He is the son of Rota Mayor Joseph Inos.
