Over 500 students register for NMC Spring 2009
The Northern Marianas College reported over 500 students who turned up Monday at the start of the registration for Spring 2009 classes.
The turnout was slightly better compared to those who registered in the first day of registration on Aug. 18, 2008, for the Fall 2008 classes, according to NMC sources, but no exact figures were immediately available.
The new number of enrollees for the upcoming semester is, however, way below the 900 students who registered in Spring 2008.
Despite this, NMC is glad about the opening day registration turnout.
“We are pleased to see that many people are turning to NMC to advance personally and professionally,” said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez.
She said NMC would continue its recruitment efforts, reminding everyone that it’s not too late to submit their application forms.
“We are continuing the accreditation efforts that begun last year. In the meantime, I want to remind and reassure current and prospective students that NMC is fully accredited during the show-cause period,” she said.
Registration for the Spring 2009 will continue until Saturday Jan. 17. Applications for admissions will be accepted until the last day of registration.
NMC also noted that its recruitment team assisted about 25 people during the admissions workshop last Saturday.
The team also hosted an Information Session on Jan. 5. A total of 45 prospective students attended.
The team also assisted in organizing the Financial Aid Workshop, which was attended by about 300 participants.
Other information sessions held last November gathered 120 participants.
NMC has been on probation since February 2007 and was put on show-cause in February this year because, according to Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, the school did not address previous concerns.
