Suspected supplier of meth nabbed in buy-bust operation
Police arrested a suspected supplier of methamphetamine or “ice” during a buy-bust operation on Saipan on Sunday.
Zheng Hua Tian, 38, a Chinese, was detained for trafficking of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a controlled substance.
Tian was taken to the Superior Court yesterday for a bail hearing. Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona imposed a $30,000 cash bail for the defendant’s temporary release.
Preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 5 at 9am.
Detective Norman Alvin S. Rasiang stated in his report that the controlled buy-bust operation was conducted by members of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division’s Narcotics Unit.
Rasiang said the detectives used a “cooperating defendant” who posed as a buyer.
The “cooperating defendant” was allegedly able to purchase a gram of “ice” worth $500 from Tian at a store’s parking lot.
Detectives arrested Tian after the alleged transaction and later on the same day searched his residence in As Lito where the officers claimed to have seized more “ice” and illegal drug paraphernalia.
