12 new CPA cops to augment shifting at ports
Twelve new Commonwealths Ports Authority police officers will augment the understaffed operations of CPA Saipan and Tinian.
Nine from Saipan and three from Tinian graduated from the 10th Cycle Ports Police during Friday’s ceremony at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose center in Susupe.
Kenneth Teregeyo Taitingfong, 19, of Saipan, emerged as the class valedictorian.
Taitingfong said the training was hard, rough, and long.
“I just strived hard. Sky is not the limit. I just kept working,” said Taitingfong when asked about sacrifice that ended him obtaining the top award.
The valedictorian is son of Dan Taitingfong and the late Elaine Teregeyo.
Carl France Cepeda, of Tinian, came out as the class salutatorian, while Joseph Cabuang Cruz Jr., also of Tinian, got the most physical fitness award.
Adrian T. Mendiola, of Saipan, received the top gun award.
The other graduates are Alvin Iguel Blas, Jason Dean Cabrera Cruz Jr., Jenner Rogolofoi Lisua, Christopher Torres Macabenta, Juliano Senior Matsutaro, Ramsey Hadley Rosario, Marvin Laniyo Tebit, and Joseph Piloto Untalan.
Associate Justice Alexandro Castro administered the oath of office for the 12 new CPA police officers.
Assistant Chief of Ports Police Jordon I. Kosam in an interview said the new CPA police officers would start to report work Saturday, Jan. 31.
Kosam said the 19-week training began last Sept. 22 and ended last Thursday.
“It’s basically police academy courses that police officers need to undergo before they go out and enforce the law,” Kosam said.
He said the new graduates will help augment the staffing at CPA on Saipan and Tinian.
At present, he said, CPA has a total of 50 CPA ports officers in the CNMI.
“At least they will eventually help the shift as they go out and supplement the scheduling of shift at the airports and seaports on Saipan and Tinian,” Kosam added.
