Home under construction ransacked by burglars
Burglars ransacked over the weekend a house in As Perdido that is undergoing construction and stole numerous items belonging to the residence’s contractor.
Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that the suspect or suspects stole mostly brand new items such as various materials, appliances, and fixtures owned by the homeowner.
Stolen items also included hand tools, power tools, and equipment belonging to the contractor, Vargas Corp.
Ogumoro said that, on Saturday at 7:55am a burglary and theft incident at a house in As Perdido was reported to DPS.
Preliminary investigation showed that an employee of Vargas Construction came to the job site at 7:15am and noticed that the door of a 20-foot container and the door of the house have been broken into.
Upon investigation, the employee discovered that the container and the house had been burglarized and various items were stolen. Police were called.
Police found out that the lock of the container was cut and the main door of the house was broken into.
Ogumoro said the construction site was last secured Friday.
Items taken from the house included a Staccato Double Bowl kitchen sink, a Hamilton DC kit without spray satin faucet, two pieces of chrome shower faucets, two pieces of closet organizers, three pieces of oil-rubbed bronze finial rod, three pieces of handle bath faucets, Belden I H T/S faucet, four pieces of outside lightings Westinghouse Fashion, three pieces of wall or column lightings, one ceiling fan for the screened porch, and assorted door locks, knobs and hardware.
The house owner’s items that were stolen from the container were an Upright Freezer (in box), 5,700 watts generator 10-HP Yamaha, a sprinkler pump, 3.6 cubic feet refrigerator, Brinkman four-burner grill, a complete set of toilet bowl, and Desert Sand Sun Shade.
The contractor’s belongings that were stolen from the house and container were a Makita table saw, a 5-ampere Makita circular saw, a David White level transit tripod, a 21-pound Makita demolition hammer, a yellow Dewalt hammer drill, green generator with two wheels, a yellow Dewalt drill, a green Black & Decker drill, red electric drill, electric steel cutter saw/miter, a red and black 5-speed mountain bike, assorted plumbing fittings, a pail of assorted mason hand tools, a pail of assorted carpentry hand tools, Makita grinder, three shovels, 19 pieces of GFCI outlets, and a bar clamp.
“DPS investigators are requesting the assistance of community members to please call the CIB at 664-9045/50 or Crime Stoppers if they have any information regarding this crime,” Ogumoro said.
