Ex-street fighter gets 5 months for knocking out wife’s brother
Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman has imposed a five-month prison term on former heavyweight street fighter Antonio Wabol Nekaifes for knocking out the brother of his common-law wife.
Wiseman sentenced the 33-year-old Nekaifes to one year in prison, all suspended except for five months, for assault and battery.
Wiseman also sentenced the defendant to five months in prison for violating the terms of his probation in a previous criminal case.
The judge, however, ordered that the sentence in the violation of probation case be served concurrently with the sentence in the beating case. This means that Nekaifes, also known as Xcalibur, will serve a total of five months in prison for the two cases.
Wiseman ordered the defendant to start serving his sentence on Feb. 20, 2009 at 8am. The defendant is expected to be released on July 20, 2009 at 8am.
Nekaifes will be placed on one-year supervised probation. He will be required to pay a $278 restitution for medical bills incurred by the victim, Anthony I. Somorang.
The judge directed the defendant to pay a $25 court assessment fee and perform 100 hours of community work service.
Nekaifes signed a plea agreement with the government. He pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
The plea deal stated that on July 20, 2008, Nekaikes hit Somorang in the face.
Police said Somorang sustained a swollen right cheek, nose, and lips. He had a black eye and suffered several cuts in the face. He also had abrasions on the back of his head.
A detective stated in her report that Nekaifes and Somorang had an argument about the defendant’s common-law wife at Somorang’s residence in Chalan Laulau.
The argument escalated into a shoving match. When the victim fell, the defendant allegedly went on top of Somorang and repeatedly punched him in the face.
The victim failed to fight back because he had blacked out, police said.
On Jan. 10, 2007, Nekaifes was sentenced to five years probation for knocking out a motorist, whom he reportedly beat up and assaulted with a rock in Chalan Laulau.
