The Emergency Management Office has issued a high surf advisory throughout the Commonwealth from 6pm Wednesday to 6am Friday.

The agency is strongly advising the public—especially beachgoers, fishermen, tourists, swimmers, divers, and surfers—to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beach especially along north and west facing reefs. The agency said rip currents could be life threatening to anyone entering the water.

Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, dangerous surf along north facing exposures will last through Wednesday.

According to the EMO Saipan, Tinian, and Rota should expect hazardous surf of 15-17 feet along north facing exposures through tonight. Surf heights along northern exposures will fall below 15 feet by Wednesday afternoon. Minor coastal inundation around a foot is possible around the time of high tide through Wednesday afternoon.

EMO is advising the public to stay clear of life-threatening surf along facing reefs. It reiterated that people should not go out to see the surf.

On Rota, people should avoid the north facing exposures that include Teteto beach, while on Saipan, they should stay clear of north facing exposures, including Achugau beach. (EMO)
