Marianas High School kept its immaculate record in both the boys and girls varsity divisions of the 2008-2009 MISO Basketball League after sweeping Saipan Southern High School Friday at the MHS Gymnasium.

The Dolphins recovered from a sluggish start to cruise to a 67-48 over the Manta Rays.

The MHS cagers now sport a 3-0 record. The Rays ended the regular season winless in four games, a biggest setback for the team that defeated the Dolphins in last season’s finals.

Southern, which had only a few players from last year’s champion team playing this season, limited MHS to only nine points in the first quarter to take the lead, 12-9.

But after a lethargic start, Jericho Cruz sparked a Dolphins’ 18-6 attack in the second period to grab the driver’s seat at halftime, 27-18.

MHS, which won by only eight points, 63-55, in its first meeting with Southern, played without one of its top guns—Marvin Rabauliman, who was given a disciplinary action.

Zack Tudela, Heartim Williams, and Clayton Kenty stepped up in absence of Rabauliman and the Dolphins were never threatened in the second half.

Cruz led all scorers with 25 points, while Tudela, Williams, and Kenty combined for 26 points, more than half of Southern’s total output.

Bryan Ajoste and Vince Iglecias paced the Rays with 12 markers each.

In the girls division, the Lady Dolphins were simply too much for the Lady Rays, as the former recorded another dominating win, 77-27.

The Lady Dolphins, which defeated the Lady Rays by 42 points in their first encounter, 59-17, now have a 4-0 record. The Lady Rays are at the bottom of the team standings with a dismal 0-4 slate.

Lia Rangamar and Lalaine Pagarao fired 19 markers apiece for the Lady Dolphins, who had the game in the control as early as in the first period leading by 18, 20-2.
