Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has certified the over-the-cap salary of two physicians at the Commonwealth Health Center.

In a Feb. 3 letter to the presiding officers of the Legislature, Fitial granted his approval to allow Dr. Michael Koning and Dr. Michael Hart to each receive an annual salary of $270,000, which exceeds the $50,000 salary cap set by the Compensation Adjustment Act.

Koning and Hart are anesthesiologists at CHC.

Public Law 8-6 requires the governor to certify and approve an annual salary exceeding the $50,000 per annum cap.

“By copy of this letter, I am also advising the chairman of the Civil Service Commission of this certification,” the governor added.
