Kabiriel runs off with first Enticer

Ketson “Jack” Kabiriel reasserted his mastery in the run portion of last Saturday’s first Enticer Race in Marpi.

The event was the first of a series of races organized by the Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation serving as tune-up for the XTERRA Saipan Championship and Tagaman Triathlon in April.

There were a total of 39 participants, including veteran Lewie Tenorio, who submitted the fastest time among seven other finishers in the long course, while Kabiriel was among the 29 runners in the main event, which was the shorter distance—500 meters in the swim, six miles in the bike, and two miles in the run. Three other runners joined as a team.

Kabiriel, who likes to call himself “The Roadrunner Bunny,” finished third in the swim from Paupau Beach with a time of five minutes, 49 seconds, fifth in the bike from Paupau to Banzai Cliff and back (0:23:46), and first in the run from Paupau to Marianas Resort and Spa (0:09:34).

In all, Kabiriel checked in with the fastest combined time of 0:39:09.

Butch Sublemente submitted a total of 0:39:19 after coming in only 14th in the swim (0:07.36), but picked it up in the bike and run portions by placing second on both with times of 0:21.31 and 0:10:12, respectively.

Florian Braig was third overall with a total time of 0:39:47 by placing 13th in the swim (0:07:30), and crossing the finish line in the bike portion with the fastest time (0:20:50). He went down to fifth in the run leg (0:11:27).

Russ Quinn was fourth overall with 0:41:26 by settling for sixth in the swim (0:06:21), third in the bike (0:23:09), and seventh in the run (0:11:56).

Mat Mancao was fifth (0:41:44)—15th in swim (0:07:44), fourth in bike (0:23:16), and fourth in the run (0:10:44).

Josh Gabaldon was sixth overall with 0:43.20—11th in the swim (0:07:26), seventh in the bike (0:25:24), and third in the run (0:10:30).

The first woman to arrive at the finish line after three stages was seventh overall finisher Kanae Quinn, who clocked in at 0:44:09. She came in seventh in the swim (0:06:36), sixth in the bike (0:25:22), and 11th in the run (0:12:11).

Behind her was first-time competitor Rachel Rounds, who submitted an accumulated time of 0:44:15—fourth in the swim (0:05:54), 11th in the bike (0:26:49), and sixth in the run (0:11:32).

Cooper Graf topped the swim with a time of 0:04:50 but slowed down in the bike at 17th (0:32:16), and in the run at 14th (0:12:42) to place 13th overall.

In the long course, Tenorio submitted an accumulated time of one hour, 18 minutes, and 14 seconds after three stages—sixth in the swim (0:14:14), first in the bike (0:43:12) and third in the run (0:20:48).

Fred Camacho had an accumulated time 1:22:18 for second place—fourth in the swim (0:13:23), third in the bike (0:48:19), and second in the run (0:20:36).

Josh Berger was third overall at 1:23:02—third in the swim (0:13:18), second in the bike (0:47:43), and fourth in the run (0:22:01).

Shogo Ando came first in the run with 0:20:28, but was slower in the swim after coming in at fifth with a time of 0:13:26. He also finished fifth in the bike (0:51:35) to settle for fourth place overall with a time of 1:25:29.
