Man hurt after vehicle overturns, catches fire

A man was injured when his vehicle skidded, overturned, and caught fire along Isa Drive in Papago yesterday morning.

Guohua Lu, 45, sustained a minor cut on the left arm. Medics treated him at the scene and released him.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said the road was wet at the time and Lu was cited for over-speeding.

Ogumoro said alcohol was not a factor.

She said apasserby called DPS at 8:40am about a vehicular accident near the Botanical Garden in Papago.

Ogumoro said preliminary investigation showed that Lu was driving a green 1999 Toyota 4-Runner along Isa Drive going north when the vehicle skidded.

The vehicle ran off the road, hit a big rock, and overturned. The vehicle’s came to rest on its right side facing west, with its engine on fire.

Ogumoro said responding firefighters immediately extinguished the blaze.

The DPS spokesperson said the 4-Runner sustained moderate damage on both sides.
