Ol’Aces and IT&E notched separate wins Monday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium to remain in a deadlock at second place in the team standings in the 2008-2009 BANMI/Budweiser Basketball League.

Ol’Aces thwarted Docomo, 77-70, giving the former its fifth win in seven games. IT&E also holds a 5-2 slate after an 82-74 triumph over the Runnin’ Rebels.

Hotshot Freddie Pelisamen exploded for 40 points to lift Ol’Aces to a win in the seesaw game.

Pelisamen knocked down two triples in the opening period finishing with 12 points, as Ol’Aces took the lead, 20-17.

In the second quarter, there were several lead changes, as neither team could find its rhythm. Mel Manibusan made eight of his 12 in the second period, which ended with Docomo grabbing the lead, 38-34.

The third canto was another neck-and-neck battle with Pelisamen adding eight points and Elias Rangamar closing out the quarter with back-to-back triples to put Ol’Aces back in the driver’s seat, 55-52.

Ol’Aces finished off Docomo with a string of triples in the fourth period with Pelisamen canning three treys and Rangamar drilling two.

In the second game, IT&E recovered from a slow start to eke out an eight-point win against the Runnin’ Rebels.

IT&E scored only nine points in the first period and was behind, 9-14. But a 33-20 scoring binge in the second quarter put IT&E on track, as it took the lead at halftime, 42-34.

IT&E increased the lead to as much as 15 in the third period, 60-45, and never looked back from thereon.

Kae Bernardo and Sonny Ranola led IT&E’s fifth win, nailing 24 and 21 points, respectively.

Syl Teregeyo scored 19 points for the Runnin’ Rebels, who absorbed their fifth loss in a row.
