Hofschneider: DPL, Neo Gold Wings are still working on land lease deal
Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider yesterday said the Department of Public Lands and Neo Gold Wings Paradise are still working on a land lease agreement involving hectares of land on Tinian where a $200 million to $500 million hotel resort and casino project will be built.
The two parties met yesterday with the Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs chaired by Hofschneider and the House Committee on Natural Resources chaired by Rep. Ramon A. Tebuteb to try to iron out issues on the proposed land lease agreement.
Earlier, Hofschneider said DPL wanted to reduce the land proposed for lease—from 300 hectares to about 160 hectares.
The parties will meet again with the legislative committees on Monday.
“The reason why we called the meetings is that we saw possible fallout between DPL and Neo Gold Wings. We don’t want to see that. I, as chairman of the committee, feel it’s our responsibility to entertain the proposal and look at the proposed lease and bridge the gap,” Hofschneider said.
Once the land lease issue is dealt with between DPL and Neo Gold Wings, the House and Senate will resume the cancelled joint session on Wednesday to tackle the lease agreement.
Neo Gold Wings Paradise is proposing to lease approximately 300 hectares of public land on Tinian’s Pina Area for the construction of a “six-star, 1,000-room mega hotel resort and casino.”
Two other investors are proposing to build casino and hotel resorts on Tinian, which so far has only one operating casino, the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.
